]]>In this very personal gallery - I pay tribute to Jack Vettriano - one of my most admired artists.

Jack Vettriano grew up in the industrial seaside town of Methil, Fife. He left school at 16 and later became an apprentice mining engineer. Vettriano did not take up painting as a hobby until the 1970s, when a girlfriend bought him a set of watercolours for his 21st birthday.[1] His earliest paintings, under the name "Jack Hoggan", were copies or pastiches of impressionist paintings – his first painting was a copy of Monet's Poppy Fields.[2] Much of his influence came from studying paintings at the Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery in neighbouring Kirkcaldy. In 1984, Vettriano first submitted his work to the Shell-sponsored art exhibition in the museum.

The images in this gallery are intended as a personal project.

]]>POP princess Pixie Lott launched her brand new autumn-winter range for Lipsy at the Arndale Centre in Manchester.

Shoppers and fans waited for hours to catch a glimpse of the star who chatted to fans and signed autographs in the store wearing an electric blue playsuit from her new collection.

After cutting the ribbon on her new range, Pixie treated fans to a live acoustic performance of songs from her forthcoming album, Young Foolish Happy, out in November.

]]>GLAMOROUS soap stars and designer-clad Wags turned out to one of Liverpool’s most expensive and lavish parties.
They were among the 400 guests who were invited to the £250,000 bash to mark the relaunch of the Malmaison hotel.
Bosses at the prestigious waterfront hotel went to town on the party as a thank you to their loyal customers last night.

Massive security teams were on standby as famous faces such as Coronation Street’s Michelle Keegan and Tina O’Brien made their way inside the scaffolding-free building.
Corrie actor Andrew Lancel was also met by the paparazzi’s flashing cameras.

Other celebrities included Corrie’s on-screen couple Brooke Vincent and Sacha Parkinson who dressed to impress.
Graeme Hawley, who played Corrie murderer John Stape, was a real hit at the party, performing a DJ set of top dancefloor-filling tunes.

X Factor hopeful Carolynne Poole, Scouse girl group Estrella and Juice FM’s Anton Powers also entertained.
Hollyoaks beauties including Rachel Shelton, Jennifer Metcalfe, Gemma Merna, Stephanie Waring and Jorgie Porter attended the celebrations.
